Abstract:
Dr. Jia’s research is to understand the molecular mechanisms of Hedgehog (Hh) signal transduction and the roles of Hh signaling components in development and cancer. Recent research focus is on the regulation of Smoothened (Smo), a GPCR family member required for transduction of the Hh signal in cells exposed to Hh ligand. Through a combination of biochemical, cell biology and genetics approaches, Dr. Jia’s group has made great contribution to the field by demonstrating the mechanisms of Smo phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and intracellular trafficking. He has published papers on Nature, Genes and Development, Developmental Cell, Development and other top-tier Journals.
