研究陈述:
Dr.Yu started to work in the field of genomics about 10 years ago when she was still a graduate student in the Biomedical Engineering department of the University of Michigan. Cancer Genomics has later proven itself to be the right niche for her due to her interest and her multi-disciplinary training in the fields of medicine, computer programming and statistics. Her skills in these areas were deeply sharpened by her postdoctoral training with Dr. Arul M. Chinnaiyan, a pioneer and leader in using –omics approaches to study prostate cancer.
At the current stage, her primary research interest is to understand aberrant transcriptional regulation in prostate cancer. They utilize high-throughput genomic techniques followed by bioinformatics/statistical analysis to generate hypothetical concepts. They then test the hypothesis using traditional molecular or cellular biological approaches and examine the functional relevance of innovative mechanisms using in vitro cell line and in vivo mouse models. Their current focus is on transcription factors and regulatory pathways that mediate prostate cancer cell growth and de-differentiation. Transcription factors of particular interest to them include androgen receptor, Polycomb group protein, and the Ets family proteins. Based on the genetics and epigenetics of the disease, they also pursue translational research to define diagnostic / prognostic biomarkers and to pursue novel therapeutics strategies for treating advanced prostate cancer.
